Massa

Massa is a Tuscan town, the capital of the Province of Massa-Carrara. Starting from fifteenth to the nineteenth century became the capital of an independent principality, to become then Duchy of Massa and Carrara, governed by the families of Malaspina and Cybo-Malaspina. In 1829 the city became the property of the Dukes of Modena of the Este family of Austria. In 1859 he was united to the Kingdom of Sardinia. The suburb of the city is structured around the fifteenth century castle of the Malaspina and the ducal palace of the Renaissance period, which gives Piazza Aranci, that name is the double row of orange trees that surround. In the middle of the square is an obelisk surrounded by four marble lions.
